One voice. One tavern. Ten stories. Astoria after dark.
The back room on Ditmars Boulevard is where the neighborhood settles accounts that never appear on a receipt. A protection payment changes hands. Maria closes the kitchen early. A bookmaker from Piraeus works the room. A wedding lamb waits for a knife. Father Dimitrios notices more than he admits. Then one envelope under the register changes what the tavern can survive.
The first songs establish the room and its unwritten economy. The middle of the record brings surveillance, celebration and conscience. By the final table before dawn, the tavern is still standing — but it is no longer the same place.
Greek-American rebetiko noir with bouzouki, baglama, upright bass, hand percussion and small-room analog warmth. All ten songs are carried by the same restrained storyteller: ASTORIA MAN.
